My role is the Commercial Manager of our Birmingham Service Centre; this role is a new challenge for me having spent the last 3 years as Commercial Manager of our Black Country Service Centre.
On a day-to-day basis, as well as managing a team of consultants to deliver both temporary & permanent margin, I'm also a very hands on manager - I very much get involved in building relationships with candidates & clients alike, managing both temporary & permanent vacancies, business development with existing, new & lapsed clients, scheduling & attending client meetings, maintaining compliance on behalf of the division, and ensuring that as a team we meet our aim of increased revenue!
What are the most enjoyable parts of your job role?
One of the most enjoyable parts of my role at Extra Personnel is being fortunate enough to engage with a wide variety of people on a daily basis - whether that be with clients, candidates or colleagues alike - building relationships with these people makes my job not only interesting but worthwhile.
I also love the fact that one day in recruitment at Extra Personnel is never the same as the next! I'm never short of a challenge and because of the team 'ethos' here I'm never short of a pair of hands to help me meet that challenge, it's encouraging to know that there is always someone on hand to help either within the branch network or from our support team at Head Office.
Above all I love the challenge that working in a target driven environment brings, knowing that I and my team have achievable targets to work towards and excellent rewards for reaching those targets is a real driver!!
Where do you see your career going?
Since joining Extra Personnel back in 2007 my career has already progressed hugely in a relatively short period of time, because I can see where my peers have come from and ultimately how their careers have progressed within the business I hope that my career will take a similar path! I'm really happy with the challenge I currently have driving productivity within the Commercial arm of our Birmingham Service Centre, however once I have achieved that challenge I would love to take on a multi-site management role.
How would you describe your work environment?
When I joined Extra Personnel, having come from a company where I had worked for 5 years within a very close knit team I thought I would never get the opportunity to work within a team where I truly enjoyed being at work in a fun and engaging environment again or at least it would never quite be the same! I was pleasantly surprised however; I now feel fortunate to have made friends out of colleagues and to have worked with such passionate people who really care about getting the job done, and getting it done well!
What advice would you give to someone new starting in recruitment?
The best advice I could give someone new in recruitment is - what you get out of the job is completely relative to what you put in! If you work hard and are truly passionate about what you do the results will speak for themselves, the crux of the job is based upon building strong relationships - be yourself, be honest and be accountable for what you do!
What attracted you to working for Extra Personnel?
Having worked for a similar company to Extra Personnel I had always come up against them as competitor! Extra Personnel have always held a strong presence in the Midlands and my initial thoughts were 'if I want to progress my career with a competitor it's got to be a good one, otherwise what's the point in moving!'
A position arose at Extra Personnel in Dudley which gave me the opportunity to progress my career, take the next natural step and essentially gain the management experience I really wanted. After having met some key people within the business at first and second stage interview, learning of the structure at Extra Personnel, the potential career path open to me and of course the rewards - I knew that it was the right move to make. Nearly 4 years on I know it was the right move!
